Our first real farm pets (besides the cats, which are really just for the kids and mice) we got us some beautiful heritage wyandotte chicks.  They made themselves right at home in our bathtub.
Aren't they cute?

But they got bigger and were kicking dust all over the bathroom and started getting their feathers, so at three weeks we moved them outside.  It was a big change for them, but they seem to like it.  Since they aren't big enough to hide from predators and protect themselves, we surrounded their coop and a big section of yard with electric netting.  It definitely keeps our cat away and we were pretty satisfied when we put it up.  Our neighbors came over and watched as we brought out our babes and showed them their new home.  What did they do?  They walked right through that electric netting and into the brambles!  Well, it took a lot of yelling, scrambling, fumbling and feathers, but we got them all safely into the their coop and they seem to be doing just fine.

They grow up so fast!

Yesterday we took a fun day and went to the Living Animals Treasure Park.  The kids had a great time and a recommendation.  How about we get one of THESE?!

Sorry kids.  Unless an animal gives us eggs, meat or milk, or chases away the mice, we're not getting it.

The weather's great!  The land is alive!  And we have got a lot to do... So good night!
